These undershirts of the early-days were commonly made from cheap single cotton jersey, with a simple cut and sew construction and ribbed collar, making them easily accessible to produce for the mass consumer. The fit relaxed compared to its undergarment counterpart, as it was no longer necessary to fit snuggly beneath uniforms. The t-shirt’s versatility also lends itself as the ideal venue for a graphic, often used in military outfitting to depict a soldiers regiment.
